Marvin Morris

Marvin Morris

Marvin Morris was a homeless veteran who was referred to StepUp from a local homeless shelter.  Marvin's goal was to get a job in the security industry.  He was able to obtain a position in security and afford a room in a boarding house.  After several months of employment his employer lost a security contract for which Marvin was hired.  Due to this Marvin was let go.  This period started a downward spiral for Marvin and soon, lost his housing and found himself living on the streets.

Marvin stayed on the streets for several months and continued looking for work. Afraid to go back to the shelter for fear of having his belongings stolen, he sought assistance from StepUp to provide rental funds for a storage unit.  Marvin went through StepUp Durham's Jobs Week and continued his job search with a Success Coach. He found another security position and after a few months on the job Marvin was finally able to move into another boarding house.

In wanting to show his appreciation, Marvin notified his success coach stating he officially moved into his new home.  "I got all my belongings and moved into my new place and new beginning in Raleigh and fell asleep and didn't wake up till 17 hrs later. Not sleeping flat and on these streets will do that to anyone.  Wow, it was the greatest sleeping and beautiful dreams I have had since a kid!!!! Thank you and others in StepUp who encouraged and cared deeply for my success,  it means very much to me. I couldn't have gone through losing all I have, and been through what I have encountered, if I didn't have your deep care and encouragement in my life. It's a great joy to have you as friends and walk this journey side by side with such special souls as yourselves."
